HUMMINBIRD MEGA LIVE 2

Hardware Improvements:
• The PCB, power supplies, and other components have been improved to help with signal to noise ratio.
• The grounding/shielding system of the array has been improved. This protects the system from interference from the trolling motor.
• The receive array has been improved to increase the capability, performance, and reliability.
• The MEGA Live 2 housing has been improved to increase manufacturability and sonar performance.
• The beam width of the array has been optimized to improve forward mode performance.
• The wet switch has been improved so that the system will more likely detect water when it’s in the air vs. not detecting water when it is in the water. The technology we are using is different now. It also does not matter if the system pings in the air. It will not overheat or wear-out. We’ve kept the wet-switch to save battery life. If we have problems with it, we will remove it with a software update.
• We improved the calibration of the magnetometer/compass/accelerometer that is built into MEGA Live 2.
• We improved the image stabilization software in both MEGA Live 2 and the Humminbird to provide more stable, and thus clearer, images.
• The quality and durability of the power and Ethernet cables on MEGA Live 2 has been improved.

Software Improvements:
• Improved jig tracking and bait tracking performance.
• Improved detail in structure.
• Improved ping-rate (20 Hz. on MEGA Live 2 vs. 8 Hz MEGA Live 2). This significantly improves the user’s ability to interpret the image and our ability to filter out noise and artifacts.
• Improved first time setup and networking.
• Added in-pane touch targets for range and sensitivity.
• Improved image stability and de-blurring.

Landscape Mode Improvements:
There are at least two main topics of conversation here:
1. We've improved the blurriness of the image when rotating the transducer, overall image quality/resolution, and stabilization of what we've historically called "Normal" Landscape Mode. This puts us in the hunt against our competition. We are better at showing fish. The structure is a little sharper on their image. We have a little more range away from the boat. They are better on the edge of the return.
2. We are adding a new mode, referred to currently as "Open Water" mode. It's a type of Landscape mode that works very similar to Down Mode. It is not intended to show the bottom, fish beds, or structure. It's intended to show the water column so that fish can easily be seen and lures can be easily tracked.

Mounting Bracket Improvements:
We’ve changed several things about the MEGA Live 2 bracket:
This bracket is only compatible with MEGA Live 2. It is not backwards compatible with MEGA Live 1.
We’ve changed the ratchet index to 7.5 degrees from 10 degrees. This gives more flexibility in Landscape Mode (specifically the new “Open Water” version of Landscape mode).
We’ve made the mode indicators (Down, Forward, Landscape) more visible and easier to understand.
To prevent the “mechanical slop” that has been experienced in the field due to wear-and-tear or even abuse, we’ve put a new locking mechanism when the mount is closed.

MEGA Live 2 Networking and Interference:
• MEGA Live 2 is supported by APEX, SOLIX G3, and XPLORE.
• MEGA Live 1 is still supported by APEX, SOLIX G3, and XPLORE.
• The network can only support one MEGA Live 1 at a time.
• The network can support more than one MEGA Live 2 at a time. Each unit can only be subscribed to one MEGA Live 2 at a time, so to see a different transducer, the user must re-subscribe to the different transducer. To see two at the same time, two units must be used, but everything can be on the same Ethernet network. This is a unit RAM/memory issue and not a UI or interference issue. It’s the same way our competitor’s work.
• The network can support MEGA Live 1 and MEGA Live 2 at the same time. A single unit can be subscribed to both at the same time and the user just has to change views to see one vs. the other. A split view with both cannot be created because of RAM/memory limitations.
• We’ve dramatically changed the methodology being interference rejection. We no longer must slow down MEGA 360, or 2D, DI, SI to prevent interference to or from MEGA Live. This is why we can support MEGA Live 1 and 2 at the same time and why we can support more than one MEGA Live 2 at the same time.
• Note that MEGA Live 2 is not supported by HELIX and never can be because of the higher performance and ping-rate of MEGA Live 2. With new software for XPLORE, APEX, and SOLIX G3 HELIX units must be removed from the network (not the boat – the Ethernet network).

MEGA Live 2 Technology vs. Competitive Technology:
• The highest-level term for the technology is "multi-beam". Everyone with a Forward Facing Sonar product in the market so far is "multi-beam".
• Our technology is called phased array. Our competitor’s technology is blazed array, and their form of blazed array is also a frequency swept array.
• The biggest driver of differences in technology has to do with transmitters and receivers. We have one transmitter and 256 receivers. They have three transmitters and one receiver.
• We truly believe that phased array multi-beam is the best technology to use for this fishing application and gives us a lot of options for innovation in the future.

MEGA Live 2 Transom Mounting Bracket
This bracket augments MEGA DI. It provides forward imaging while trolling. It could be used for hunting groups of Crappie out in the open, targeting Striper while dragging planar-boards, or looking for brush quickly in new areas. It could also be used mounted to a jack-plate and pointed to the side to augment MEGA SI.
